Star Wars™: Squadrons - Review

Here's a quick review on the new game EA has released: (CONTAINS SPOILERS)

STORYLINE

So basically for both of them, you are a new addition to each elite crew (Titan Squadron for the Empire and Vanguard Squadron for the New Republic) and you have to carry out various missions pertaining to the story. There are 7 missions for each faction totaling 14 overall. It's very quick to complete, even shorter than Jedi: Fallen Order, but overall it's a nice experience in general. However, personally, I feel it's a little repetitive and there's not too much variety, but thats okay. The good thing about it though is that it's not exactly like the campaign in BF2, it's pretty much completely different. I do like the Iden Versio story more because of the variety, but it's good that this wasn't a knockoff of hers because of the lack of originality Star Wars has recently seen. In the end, I wouldn't put this on my top list of story games or even Star Wars, but it's not bad and one I would play every once in a while.

CREW

Here are the main characters:

New Republic: Lindon Javes, Grace Seinar, Gunny, Frisk, and Keo Venzee

Empire: Admiral Rae Sloane, Terisa Kerill, Havina Vonreg, Rella Sol, and Shen

I would like to go ahead and give credit on the fact that with the little time in the story, they gave good character development and details on their backstories. It definitely was something to look out for and they did very well. I liked how they connected characters of the New Republic and Empire to having similar behavior, even though sometimes it seemed too much a copy. They were all very cool and we got to see more aliens in prominent spotlight which in the movies we don't see as much.

ONLINE GAMEPLAY

I honestly thoroughly enjoyed the online gameplay. It's set in a dogfight style, kind of like Battlefront but without set objectives. The rounds were fun and rewarding. I do hope in future updates they add more modes, but this one was pretty good. It was a nice balance of challenging and not completely impossible. The one major thing about it though is that I wish they would make the map bigger so it's not as close quarters combat, but overall this was my favorite thing about the game.

CUSTOMIZATION

This was a neat addition to the game. The person customizations aren't all that necessary being that you never really see your character, but the ship customizations were pretty cool. You know, all the paint jobs? Being able to upgrade and fly different ships was nice to see as well. Overall, I don't think this was a huge factor in the game, but it's always cool to make things your own.

OVERALL

So overall, this game was pretty good, not great. It's not my favorite Star Wars game by any stretch. It was pretty limiting and not very necessary. Why I say it's not necessary is because we already had this in Battlefront and could have benefitted from a different game. It wasn't a bad game by any means though, it was a fun play, but it's not one I could continuously play. If you want to get it, I recommend you waiting till it gets a little cheaper and then I think it would be worth it.
